Cuba authorizes for natural persons the importation of photovoltaic systems without commercial purposes

As of this Wednesday, July 28, the importation of photovoltaic systems, their parts and pieces, by natural persons, without commercial purposes.
 
In accordance with Resolution 206/2021 published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, such importation is exempt from taxes as it passes through customs.
 
It adds that in order to continue with the development of renewable energy sources and increase its participation in the electricity generation matrix in the national territory, it is necessary to approve the importation by natural persons of photovoltaic systems, their parts and pieces.
 
According to the document, photovoltaic solar energy is considered the electrical energy obtained by the direct transformation of sunlight into electricity.

The photovoltaic system is generally composed of the following parts:

a) Photovoltaic panels; b) direct and alternating current protections; c) inverter for photovoltaic systems; d) batteries for energy storage; e) electrical conductor; f) grounding system; g) support structure (hardware and screws); h) electric blackboard; i) battery charge regulator; j) cabinet for parts and components of the photovoltaic system; and k) electrical accessories for mounting.

The resolution signed by the Minister of Finance and Prices, Meisi Boñalos, clarifies that the photovoltaic panels, the inverter, the support structures, electric boards, cabinets for parts and the grounding system that are imported independently of the photovoltaic system, are imported they consider fundamental parts and pieces.

The document itself explains that the natural person is responsible for the installation of the photovoltaic system and its sustainability, as well as for the recontracting of the electricity service to the Company and that the latter certifies compliance with the requirements for installation and guarantees the meter for measuring the energy generated by the photovoltaic system.

The Minister of Energy and Mines keeps the General Customs of the Republic updated with the technical information that allows the identification of photovoltaic systems, their parts, pieces and accessories.
